In 2021, an iconic LOEWE bag that was originally designed in the 1970s gets a facelift. It’s the Amazona bag, and the launch of its latest iterations is coinciding with the French fashion house’s 175th anniversary.

Making its debut in LOEWE’s Fall-Winter 2021 runway collection, the bag has been reimagined in two new styles; the Amazona 19 Square and Amazona 28, available in bold hues and nappa calfskin, and another range bedecked with the brand’s Anagram symbol, which is woven in jacquard in a repetitive pattern on a blended cotton canvas.

Named after the female characters of Greek mythology, the Amazona was formerly designed in 1975, a stellar period in history when women were working towards gaining equality and independence in the workplace. The Amazona bag was made for those spirited, independent women, who epitomized the liberating mood of the year.

Comfortable and versatile, the new bag features a classic hooped handle and enough space to hold everything you need over the course of a working day. The construction, proportions, materials and detailing of the bag have been reworked to satiate the palate of present-day women.

The Amazona bag in nappa calfskin is available in colorways like Avocado Green, Black, Lagoon Blue, Lime Yellow, Mink and Warm Desert. It has been redesigned with large, zipped compartments, in keeping with today’s electronics, with a fully functional padlock that’s engraved with LOEWE’s Anagram and an inside mini pocket to conceal its key. The bag is accompanied by removable and adjustable shoulder straps, sleek zips, and metal feet for extra protection.

The Anagram Jacquard Amazona adorns the house’s emblem of four interlocking ‘Ls’, woven into a new blended cotton fabric. It’s available in two hues, Navy against Black calfskin trim, and Green with Avocado calfskin trim. The fabric has been treated in a way that makes the bag water-repellent and resistant to stains.

Both the styles are available in two sizes, the Amazona 19 Square and the Amazona 28, with the numbers referencing to their width in centimeters. Each is lined in gold suede with leather piping, finished off with the ‘LOEWE Made in Spain’ branding that’s embossed in gold on the inside of its panel and leather straps.
