The next stop on the international art circuit? Abu Dhabi. You’re in for a creative treat at Abu Dhabi Art 2019 that will be running from 21-23 November. Unveiling tomorrow is a contemplative site-specific installation by Olive Beer and Leandro Elrich, who explore history of the region through their work. Oliver, who has previously been shown at Metropolitan Museum, New York, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, and Centre Pompidou, Paris, will now be bringing forth his works to Al Ain and Al Qasr venues. An interactive jewelry-meets-poetry installation will pique the visitors’ interest. Sheikha Mariam Khalifa Al Nahyan, founder of MKS Jewelry, has teamed up with poets from Untitled Chapters for a wondrous creative display. The new Al Otaiba collection by MKS Jewelry will be on view at the brand’s booth.
Here, we round-up what we’re most looking forward to at the three-day fair:
1. Beyond: Emerging Artists and Gateway Exhibition: At the auditorium at Manarat Al Saadiyat, three artists, Ayesha Hadhir, Rawdha Khalifa Al Ketbi and Shaikha Al Ketbi, will showcase their installation, riveting the crowd’s attention with their ‘absence/presence’ technique, with the message that you’re responsible to carve out your own path. ‘Gateway: Fragments, Yesterday and Today’ will offer a stellar showcase of anthropological finds loaned by Al Ain Museum.
2. Winning exhibit of the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award: At the garden of Manarat Al Saadiyat is ‘Sila’, a work by design students from the American University of Sharjah. Falwah Alhouti, Ibrahim Abdellatif and Omer Al Raee with their mentor, Assistant Professor Juan Roldán Martín, will be weaving magic through their works.
3. Abu Dhabi Art Pavilion: This year, the pavilion will house enthralling designs by Mohammad Samara and Dania Darra, all themed as ‘Tamazoj’.
4. Special Olympics Garden: A series of internationally-renowned public artworks commissioned by Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be showcased at the fair on 23 November. Participating artists are Etel Adnan, Sfeir-Semler Gallery, Mehmet Ali Uysal, Pi artworks, Nadim Karam, Ayyam Gallery, Noh Jun (Leehwaik Gallery), Pascale Marthine Tayou (GALLERIA CONTINUA), and Wael Shawky (Lisson Gallery).
5. Boucheron at Abu Dhabi Art Fair: The luxury jewelry maison wil pay homage to its flagship in 26, Place Vendôme. The collection on view will reflect the brand’s ethos of creating moments through pieces.
