Founded in 1992 by avant-garde visionary Robert Wilson, The Watermill Center has become a dynamic interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts and humanities on Long Island’s East End. This creative space offers artist residencies and education programs year-round, nurturing a global community’s creativity and collaboration.
The highly anticipated annual event, The Watermill Center’s Summer Benefit, returns with the theme “the BODY,” supported by Van Cleef & Arpels and other generous contributors like PFRANKMD by Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, Prada, Aperol, and Campari America. The occasion celebrates art and experimentation while raising funds for the center’s diverse programming.
With a rich legacy in performance art, the 2023 Summer Benefit will explore the pivotal role of the body in the artistic process, transcending cultures and mediums, such as time-based performances, painting, sculpture, and video.
An impressive lineup of groundbreaking international artists will feature their dynamic works across The Watermill Center’s sprawling grounds. Among them are renowned talents like Thomas Anderson, Yunseo Choi, Afra Al Dhaheri, Evelyn Dugan, and many others, offering a diverse and captivating experience for attendees.
The crowning event of the evening will be a workshop restaging of Robert Wilson’s “Ubu,” a surreal reflection on historical inequalities and modern-day issues, presented outdoors with The Watermill Center’s summer Artists-in-Residence as performers. The production, presented by invitation of Imma Prieto, Director of Es Baluard Museum, was originally showcased at the Es Baluard Museum in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
“The BODY” promises to be an inspiring celebration of art, creativity, and the human spirit, showcasing the intersection of fashion and artistic expression with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels and other esteemed partners.
