However, we do know some of their favourite spots, from Dubai’s ruler’s love of British summers to the Spanish royals’ favourite Mediterranean retreat, Mallorca.

Castel Gandolfo
Italy is definitely a royal favourite destination. For a romantic getaway to southern Italy, Sheikh Hamad and his wife, Sheikha Moza, visited Castel Gandolfo in 2023. Officially recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it blends religious heritage, ancient Roman history and a relaxed village atmosphere.
Mallorca
The Mediterranean island is the official August summer retreat for the Spanish Royal Family. Over the years, the royals have hosted guests from royal families around the world, including Princess Diana, Queen Noor of Jordan and many more.
Capri
For a private summer getaway, Capri was the choice for Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan of Morocco, his mother, Princess Lalla Salma, and his sister, Princess Lalla Khadija. The Italian island has long been a favourite among royals, dating back to the former Egyptian monarch’s visits in the 1940s. Today, it continues to draw royal visitors with its bright blue waters, dramatic rocky cliffs, warm sea breezes and lively shops.
Scottish Highlands
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, and his family have been returning to their private family estate in the Scottish Highlands, Inverinate Estate, where they escape the GCC heat. His daughters have visited the estate each summer in recent years, enjoying the area’s serene nature.
Athens
Athens has become a favourite summer destination for royals seeking a mix of culture, history and Mediterranean charm. Princess Reem, daughter of Saudi royal billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, chose the Greek capital for her 2026 summer getaway.
Nice
King Abdullah and Queen Rania enjoyed a holiday in Nice, France, in 2009. The royal couple took in the city’s stunning coastal views and vibrant artistic heritage.
Mustique
Mustique became a British royal favourite after Princess Margaret was gifted land on the island as a wedding present in 1960, where she built her private villa, Les Jolies Eaux. Today, it remains a beloved royal retreat, with Prince William and Princess Kate bringing their three children for family holidays.
