Istanbul’s Sultan Ahmet Mosque ranked 15th, and Hagia Sophie, 21st, and Afghanistan’s Blue Mosque took the 23rd position. Coming in first is India’s Taj Mahal, while the Palace of Versailles and The Duomo in Florence took the second and third positions, respectively. Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia and Osaka Castle in Japan made it to the top five.
Designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Burj Khalifa’s façade features a triple-lobed footprint, which takes a cue from the Hymenocallis flower.
