Here’s Your Chance To Apply For The Coveted LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize 2022

The LOEWE Foundation has opened the call for entries to the fifth edition of its Craft Prize, an international award celebrating excellence in craftsmanship. At the core of the foundation is to acknowledge and support international artisans, who have the ability to create objects that demonstrate great aesthetic sensibilities.

All participants should be professional artisans 18 years and older, and entries can be made as an individual or a group. The submissions must be attuned to the following criteria:

  • Fall within an area of applied arts (such as ceramics, enamelwork, jewelry, furniture and textiles)
  • Be an original work that’s handmade or partly handmade
  • Has been created in the last five years
  • Be one-of-a-kind
  • Has won no prize previously
  • Demonstrates artistic intent

The Craft Prize 2022 boasts an impressive roster of judges, which includes Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of LOEWE; architect-industrial designer Patricia Urquiola; Olivier Gabet, Director of Paris’ Musée des Arts décoratifs; Abraham Thomas, Curator of Modern Architecture, Design and Decorative Arts; and Fanglu Lin, winner of the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize fourth edition, among other luminaries.

“Craft is always going to be modern. It’s about creating objects that have a formula of their own and speak their own language, creating a dialogue that didn’t exist before. It’s about newness as much as it’s about tradition,” Jonathan Anderson says on the website.

To register, you’ll require two-to-five photographs of the work or series and a video (optional), along with a brief conceptual statement about the submission. The prize for the winning entry is €50,000 (approx. Dhs215,961). This work, along with the finalists’ creations will be included in an exhibition and an accompanying catalogue ‘LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize 2022’ that will go on view in Seoul. Last date to submit your applications is 25 October 2021.
