Louis Vuitton Celebrates 200th Anniversary With A Video Game, Artist Collaboration

As Louis Vuitton marked the 200th anniversary of its eponymous founder on 4 August 2021, the French Maison rolled out a string of initiatives that honor the iconic designer’s creative spirit. Among the first to be revealed is the ‘Louis 200’ video game that combines NFT art, innovation and heritage.

The game takes the player on a voyage with Vivienne, a monogrammed flower character, as she retraces Louis Vuitton’s story over the last two centuries. At the heart of the game is a quest that gives a nod to the founder’s 470-kilometer journey on foot from his home in the Jura region of France to Industrial Revolution-era Paris when he was just 14 years old. There, he eventually became one of the most sought-after trunk makers and founded a brand that has stood the test of time. The rest is history.

The game involves experiences through six levels: Louis’s Forest, Luminous City, Monogram Island, Sunshine Metropolis, and Birthday Extravaganza. A superb coming together of education, entertainment and escapism, it comprises whimsical dreamscapes that the player must navigate to collect keys and candles, which in turn open postcards, revealing a historical snippet about Louis Vuitton.

Interestingly, the game is also embedded with 30 non-fungible tokens (NFTs), created by the famed digital artist Beeple. Players need to keep an eye out for pop-up banners and if they find one, they can store it in a digital wallet that will remain locked until next year.

In addition to ‘Louis 200’, the brand has also unveiled ‘The Visionaries’ project, which features the work of 200 creatives from around the world, who have reimagined the signature Louis Vuitton trunk. Among the artists who have shared their renditions are Willo Perron, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Hannes Peer, Ibrahim Kamara, Alyssa Carson, Nick Ross, and Matthieu Tordeur.
