There are several reasons why the Me Decade still matters in fashion today – for its free-spiritedness with a big appetite for imagination. YSL is now bringing back the 70s with its latest Fall 2020 women’s collection, with a Jane Fonda-esque sensibility, and we’re on board.
Filled with new fits and a mix of warm and soft colors, especially perfect for post-pandemic travelling during fall and winter, the collection boasts exquisite tailoring, which lies at the core of Maison Saint Laurent. Think about ochre cashmere sweaters, double-breasted long leather coats, red velvet tailored jackets with vintage cropped denim – all at once fun and fabulous.
Among the centerpieces of the line is the Maison’s iconic animal print, with leopard prints on dresses, fur coats, jersey pieces and blouses summoning up a cozy fall season. Creative director Anthony Vaccarello brings back Monsier Saint Laurent’s evolutionary take on fashion, with each piece offering textures and a wider color palette, from beige and camel to red and gold, even fuchsia.
Most pertinently, the collection presents a strong, feminist viewpoint, with its homage to the actor, activist and icon that’s Jane Fonda. And its this quiet power of the collection that is sure to grip your attention.
