Expo 2020 and Cartier have announced a collaboration to present the Women’s Pavilion, which will celebrate female change-makers around the world. The initiative takes a fresh look at the contribution of women and their impact on society, shining a spotlight on their countless achievements that have powered their economies and communities.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, said in a statement, “Gender equality is an essential pillar of all sustainable development – the foundation on which the health and prosperity of communities, and indeed humanity at large, is built.” UN Women Chief Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney will lend support to the pavilion.
Welcoming the initiative, Phumzile stated, “I applaud the UAE for dedicating a space for the millions of visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai to learn about the crucial roles that women play from communities to the world stage, while recognising the challenges they still face every day.”
The pavilion will create a space for expression designed to foster dialogue among a diverse community of artists, scientists, thought leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs, business leaders and more. It’ll play a pivotal role at what’s expected to be the world’s greatest show, as it’ll celebrate women of different nationalities and from various socio-political and cultural backgrounds.
Cyrille Vigneron, President and CEO of Cartier International said, “At Cartier, women have always held a pivotal role, as a driving force and an endless source of inspiration. The Women’s Pavilion is an exciting new chapter in the Maison’s long-standing commitment to support women change-makers.”
In keeping with Expo 2020’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,’ the Women’s Pavilion will also focus on the wealth of female expertise that’s empowering and driving global citizens towards a better future. The space will offer an educational journey, showcasing male and female contributors to women’s empowerment and the fight for gender equality, while highlighting milestones and the challenges on the road to women’s rights. The idea is to raise global awareness through this inspiring stories and to inspire people to make a difference within their own communities.
