From Bahrain to the Dolomites: Sheikh Saqer Al Khalifa’s epic road adventure

Dr Sheikh Saqer Al Khalifa took to Instagram to share some exciting news: he was set to embark on a solo road trip from Bahrain to Europe, a journey he had long dreamed of and was finally ready to pursue.

Dr Sheikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, a member of Bahrain’s royal family and Advisor for Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, spent a decade in the United States, where he pursued his studies and served as Media Attaché at the Bahraini Embassy in Washington, D.C. He is also a Guinness World Record holder, recognised for the largest number of finishers in a marathon at the TCS London Marathon in April 2025.

Kicking off his adventure on Friday, Sheikh Saqer set out from his homeland, Bahrain, heading north towards the Kuwaiti border before continuing to Iraq. Staying true to his word, he kept his 110,000 followers updated every step of the way.

On Saturday, he arrived in Turkey, and by Monday, he had made his way to Bulgaria, followed by Serbia. Sheikh Saqer didn’t pause for rest; instead, he pressed on to Croatia. From there, he crossed two more countries, Slovenia and Austria, before finally reaching his destination: the majestic Dolomites, nestled in the breathtaking mountain ranges of northeastern Italy.

In an exciting adventure that spanned two continents, Dr Sheikh Saqer Al Khalifa finally answered the question most frequently asked by his followers: why embark on such a journey? His answer was simple — it’s a path to learning. For him, the open road is a classroom, a space for discovery, exchange, and the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for his country.
