Parisian jewellery house Fred is hosting its first-ever retrospective exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Titled ‘Fred: Creative Jeweller Since 1936’, it pays homage to the Maison’s 86-year-old heritage.

The exhibition walks its visitors through an immersive experience, charting the history of the brand, how it was envisioned by Fred Samuel, and its innovations, collaborations and love of coloured gems.

Expect to witness 450 jewels and nearly 300 archival pieces, like drawings, photographs, videos and exclusive stories exhibited across the museum. 

The narrative of the show is weaved around the exceptional stones that are part of Fred’s rich history. Among the highlights is the Soleil D’or, translating to Sun of Gold, the iconic fancy yellow diamond that weighs over a  100 carats. It was named as such to pay tribute to the light of the French Riviera, which deeply intrigued Fred Samuel. 

The exhibition also showcases visuals of Fred’s most notable clients, like Julia Roberts, who adorned a diamond and ruby necklace by the Maison in the movie Pretty Woman, and the Nepalese royal family. It also displays collaborative endeavours by the brand and artists like Jean Cocteau, French stylist and interior designer Vincent Darré, and Japanese couturier Tomo Koizumi.

‘Fred: Creative Jeweller Since 1936’ also houses the Maison’s new high jewellery collection, ‘Monsieur Fred Inner Light’, inspired by the founder’s unique personality and radiant aura. It comprises 24 creations interpreted across six chapters, and also introduces an exclusive new stone cut, the Fred Hero Cut, which illuminates diamonds with an unprecedented 32 facets. 

During the exhibition’s gala dinner, 230 guests were treated with a multisensorial show of lights and colours at the L’Orbe, Palais de Tokyo. They then relished an exquisite feast by Argentinian chef Mauro Colagreco, followed by a runway show of the collection.
