His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah issued an Emiri Decree appointing Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi as the head of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ).
This new role adds to the many positions Sheikha Hoor holds both in the UAE and internationally. She has been the director of the Sharjah Biennial since 2003 and founded the Sharjah Art Foundation in 2009, both serving as vital resources for artists in the Gulf and as platforms for regional and international developments in contemporary art.
Being the youngest daughter of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, did not mean that every position was handed to Sheikha Hoor on a silver platter. She worked tirelessly, just like everyone else, and often even harder.
She has made a name for herself in the art world, playing an instrumental role in leading the annual March Meeting conference overseen by the foundation, which this year celebrated its 17th edition. Both individually and collectively, these initiatives have become cornerstones of the global art calendar.
Sheikha Hoor’s success in the art world extends beyond her country. She curated the second edition of the Lahore Biennale in 2020 and was recently appointed as the artistic director of the Aichi Triennale 2025 in Japan, becoming the first non-Japanese person to hold the position.
In 2026, she will also curate the Biennale of Sydney. She has also co-curated exhibitions for the Serpentine Gallery in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
