Here’s What To Expect At New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week kick-off on February 14, giving viewers a look into some of the biggest Fall 2021 collections.

NYFW is one of the most anticipated events of the year, where international fashion brands present their collections to the public.

In light of the ongoing pandemic and with New York being on partial lockdown, the shows this year have gone digital.

From virtual catwalks to documentaries and short videos, brands are constantly reinventing themselves to provide their followers and fashion enthusiasts with a complete sensory experience.

NYFW 2021 line-up features emerging designers such as Washington DC-based brand, Dur Doux, created by Najla A. Burt and her mother Cynthia Burt. The creative duo focuses on highlighting the importance of diversity in the fashion industry, while offering affordable luxury garments with edgy elements and bold patterns.

French Japanese brand, Maison Kitsuné, will digitally present its collection for the first time ever at NYFW.  “Kitsuné” which translates to “fox” in English, is meant to represent the brand’s versatility and constant change in appearance, just like the curious animal.

Oman-based couture brand, Hala Al Mamari, showcased her newest collection on February 13, at Flying Solo, the biggest platform for independent designer in the U.S. Her collection featured classic silhouettes with modern touches and detailed embroideries.

NYFW is also introducing the “Black in Fashion Council Discovery Showroom,” curated by editor Lindsay Peoples Wagner and public relations professional Sandrine Charles.

The showroom aims to provide Black designers a platform to showcase their designs and creativity.

Some of the artistic creators include Beads Byaree, Chuks Collins, Kendra DuPlantier, Marrisa Wilson, House of Aama and Michel Men.

Other big names to look forward to are Jason Wu, Badgley Mischka, Rebecca Minkoff, Naeem Khan, Tom Ford and many more.

This year’s event will extend beyond this week: Carolina Herrera’s show will take place on February 22 while Oscar de la Renta and Altuzarra will showcase their collections in early March.
