The UAE Hope Probe takes the very first picture of Mars’ surface after it successfully reached the planet’s orbit on February 9.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, shared the picture on his Instagram profile with the caption: “the first picture of Mars captured by the first-ever Arab probe in history, 25,000 km above the Red Planet’s surface.”

This is part of the Emirates Mars Mission, which aims to study the weather and atmosphere changes of the red planet over the course of one Martian year, equivalent to two years on earth.
