What the UAE means to me: Amna Al Rumaithi, endurance rider

Emirati endurance rider Amna Al Rumaithi has crafted a remarkable success story in the world of equestrianism, embodying determination and courage. From a young age, her deep love for horses and nature shaped her journey, leading her to represent the UAE in local and international endurance races. Through these competitions, she proudly raised the UAE flag, exemplifying the strength and determination of Emirati horsewomen.

Her experiences at Bu Theeb Village, Emirates Village, and international races in France sharpened her skills and boosted her confidence. Along the way, Amna encountered challenges, such as managing horses and adapting to diverse environmental conditions during races. Alongside her passion for horses and sport, the young equestrian has pursued a career in libraries and culture, striving to deliver innovative services that cater to the needs of readers and researchers.

What is your passion in life and how did you find it?

My passion lies in horses and endurance sports. Since childhood, I have been captivated by the beauty and power of these magnificent animals, which symbolise freedom and strength.

I discovered my love for endurance through experiences at local stables, where I learned how to ride and connect with these incredible creatures. Every moment spent with horses was a learning experience, where I gained not only riding techniques but also a deep respect for their care and well-being. This passion has become an integral part of my identity, driving me to pursue excellence in this field, whether through competing or improving my equestrian skills.

How has being an Emirati shaped your worldview?

Being Emirati has instilled in me a strong sense of pride and responsibility. I am part of a community that supports women in achieving remarkable accomplishments. Our culture encourages resilience and determination, which shapes my outlook on life.

I believe Emirati women are capable of breaking barriers in various fields, including sports. This belief enhances my ability to face challenges and overcome them, positively influencing my aspirations and goals in endurance riding.

How did the UAE empower you to get where you are today?

The UAE has played a crucial role in empowering women, especially in sports. Through local and international initiatives, the government has created opportunities for women to participate in various athletic activities, fostering an inclusive environment. This support has not only allowed me to pursue my passion for endurance riding but also to compete at both local and international levels.

Thanks to these opportunities, I am now able to represent my country in sport, which fuels my inspiration and desire to achieve even more.

As a female leader in your field, how are you paying it forward to the next generation?

I strive to inspire young Emirati women by following the example set by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. Her commitment to women’s empowerment motivates me to mentor and support young talents in the endurance riding community, encouraging them to chase their dreams fearlessly.

Through organising workshops, participating in sporting events, and offering guidance, I aim to build a supportive network that encourages girls to pursue their aspirations in endurance sports.

What do you wish you’d known earlier on in life when it comes to your chosen career?

Working in the cultural and library sector has taught me the importance of interdisciplinary connections. I wish I had realised earlier how valuable these connections could be in broadening my understanding and enriching my experience in the field of endurance riding.

Knowledge about how to integrate arts, culture, and sports into my career path would’ve helped me achieve better outcomes and expand my horizons.

What’s the next challenge you’re looking forward to taking on?

I am eager to take on the challenge of achieving excellence in endurance riding, both within the UAE and internationally. I aspire to represent the UAE proudly in competitions, showcasing our nation’s strength and commitment to endurance sports.

I see this as an opportunity not only to challenge myself but also to inspire others and demonstrate that determination and perseverance can lead to great achievements.

As a proud Emirati, how do you wish to represent your culture to the wider world?

I aim to represent the UAE and its rich culture by promoting our values of hospitality, perseverance, and determination.

Through my achievements in endurance sports, I hope to highlight the incredible potential of Emirati women and the vibrant culture we embody. I want to be an ambassador for my country, expressing the heritage of the UAE through a sport I am passionate about.
