From Greek island escapes to cultural city escapes shaped by her most iconic roles
I still remember my first university field trip in 2006. We went to the cinema to watch The Devil Wears Prada. For me, as a fashion student, it offered a glimpse into the world of fashion and publishing and shaped how I imagined my career path. While it may seem material, for me, it remains a film that carries real personal significance.
Now, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 prepares for its May 1 release, the cast has embarked on their press tour, and anticipation is building. It got me thinking: Where will Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs travel in this next chapter? I started to think about the cast and how their iconic roles have always been closely tied to places. From Paris to New York, movie destinations are integral to any story.
That led me to wonder further: how would Meryl Streep travel?
Across decades of film, the actress has taken audiences from sun-drenched Greek islands to the Kenyan savannah, from Paris fashion houses to the heart of Washington. Now, as she returns to the spotlight, we look at some of the global travel destinations shaped by her iconic roles.

The Greek Islands: Inspired by Mamma Mia!
Streep’s role as Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! offered an uplifting sense of joy and spontaneity. Filmed largely on the Greek island of Skopelos, the setting became as memorable as the film itself.
To travel like Meryl Streep here would mean morning swims in crystal-clear waters, long lunches overlooking the sea, and quiet evenings strolling through whitewashed villages. There is something liberating about the simplicity of the Greek islands, where nature, music and conversation take centre stage. It is a destination that reflects warmth, creativity and a sense of freedom, all qualities that defined Streep’s unforgettable performance.

Paris: Inspired by The Devil Wears Prada
In The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly’s presence in Paris brought cinematic glamour to the fashion capital. For Meryl Streep, Paris represents elegance, culture and timeless style.
To travel like her here would be about refined and elevated experiences. Quiet mornings at museums, walks along the Seine, and elegant dinners in classic Parisian settings. No visit would be complete without a trip to the city’s fashion ateliers.

Milan: Inspired by The Devil Wears Prada 2
With The Devil Wears Prada 2 arriving on May 1, attention now turns to Milan, where the sequel is expected to unfold. The Italian fashion capital offers a natural evolution, blending heritage fashion houses, contemporary design and a distinctly European sense of polish. Much like Miranda Priestly herself, Milan promises confidence, creativity and quiet authority.

Kenya: Inspired by Out of Africa
Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Karen Blixen in Out of Africa introduced viewers to the vast beauty of Kenya’s plains. Golden light, open horizons and safari trips, it would make an. Ultimate bucket list destination. To travel like Meryl Streep in Kenya would mean embracing nature. Early-morning safaris, quiet moments watching wildlife, and evenings spent beneath expansive skies. Kenya offers space, perspective and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Washington D.C: Inspired by The Post
In The Post, Meryl Streep portrayed Katharine Graham, publisher of The Washington Post, capturing a defining moment in journalism and leadership. The film highlights a city shaped by history. A visit to Washington, D.C., Meryl Streep-style would be centred around culture. Visits to museums along the National Mall, walks through historic Georgetown, and after-dinner trips to the theatre.
To travel like Meryl Streep’s iconic characters is ultimately to visit places that tell stories and offer meaningful experiences.
