Copenhagen Fashion Week is a biannual event that brings together some of the leading names in fashion to showcase their newest collections over the course of four days.
Sustainability is at the heart of the fashion week and brands are encouraged to become more environmentally friendly. This is part of Copenhagen’s Fashion Week Sustainability Action Plan 2020-2022.
“Sustainability is the core tenet to our vision of Copenhagen Fashion Week as a forward-thinking representation of Nordic talent to our global community,” said the event’s CEO Cecilie Thorsmark on the official website.
Here is a round-up of some of the top moments from Copenhagen Fashion Week.
Danish sustainable fashion brand, Skall studio, showcased its AW21 collection, inspired by love.
The brand was created by sisters Julie and Marie Skall in 2014 and since then they’ve been working with natural materials to help push the sustainability movement forward.
Their designs are timeless and reflect the brand’s strong attention to details and craftsmanship.
Nynne’s AW21 collection, “Women for Women,” celebrates nine exceptional women from different industries, who were able to excel in their fields and pursue their dreams.
The women include Simone Skouby, a Data Analytics Architect at Lundbeck; Sofia Flykt, a Danish comedian and author of Gender Equality; and Fatima Fransson, a Furniture & Production Designer.
Nynne’s mains focus is creating a community where women are supported and empowered.
The brand’s Scandinavian roots are often highlighted in their minimalistic designs and unique silhouettes.
Stine Goya founded his brand in 2006 and ever since the designer has been reinventing himself with a vibrant palette inspired by the city of Copenhagen.
The AW21 show featured three women who despite the challenges they faced, were still able to establish themselves and unleash their confidence. The collection was shot in Cape Town, South Africa and is titled “Grunge Euphoria.”
The three women are: Yoyo Bonya, a poet and a rapper; Kara Hugo, a dancer; and Hanli Prinsloo, founder of the “I AM WATER” foundation for ocean conservation.
The clothes are inspired by David Bowie’s cutting-edge style and the glittering energy of the 1980s and 1990s.
On their official Instagram page, the brand mentioned that “with this collection, Stine Goya celebrates the abundant pleasure, carefree sensuality and impassioned angst that nightlife provides, taking Bowie at his word to be ‘heroes just for one day.”
“The Lockdown Show” by Baum und Pferdgarten presents the brand’s AW21 collection and celebrates the #BaumFamily.
Founded in 1999, the Copenhagen-based brand was created by Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave.
The new designs are showcased through the help of the creative directors’ friends who took pictures in their own homes located across the world, from Stockholm to Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, and Dubai.
“Despite the difficulties of the past year, with some of us being unable to see our friends and loved ones for so long, we wanted this to be a joyful reminder that we are still connected,” said Baumgarten and Hestehave on the brand’s official Instagram page.
The collection featured a series of unusual patterns, oversized vests, and unique accessories.
Designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan founded his brand in 2014 and ever since has been releasing tailored collections founded on constructed silhouettes, craftsmanship and durability.
With a soft colour palette, the Autumn Winter 2021 collection is all about innovative fabrics as the designer reinvents classic designs.
Mark Kenly Domino Tan wants to prove that his designs can hold up for years: “I really like the idea that a person in the age of 20 can buy a piece of garment and again when the person turns 60 there will be a coherency throughout the collections,” said the artist on the brand’s Instagram.
