Patek Philippe’s new Cubitus Collection will shape the brand’s future

Today Patek Philippe, one of the watch world’s most respected houses, took a bold step for the future of the company when it unveiled its first new watch collection in a quarter-century – the Cubitus Collection.

Right off the bat, its distinctive square-shaped case, which finishes off with rounded corners, creates a unique silhouette. Speaking of the shape, Patek Philippe’s CEO Thierry Stern said, “I took the best of what I knew and tried to transform it into a square shape that would fit wrist in a very thin case.” Adding, “It has the DNA of a sporty watch but it’s not just a copy. It’s a whole new square design to fit this family.”

Indeed, the choice to craft the dial with a horizontal relief embossing gives the timepiece a sporty dynamism, particularly when worn with a bracelet that echos those horizontal lines.

The initial offering from the line includes three versions, and each one has its own unique appeal. There is the technical model (which features six filed patent applications) called the Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases (Reference 5822P-001) in platinum.

A retro-cool two-tone Cubitus model that comes with a blue sunburst dial motif and a two-tone steel and rose gold bracelet (Reference 5821/1AR-001). Rounding out the three new watches is the combo of an olive green dial and steel case on a matching steel bracelet that is the Cubitus Reference 5821/1A-001. A sporty yet sophisticated blend of style and substance.

A trio of unique timepieces, the Cubitus collection joins Patek Philippe’s collection of heritage horology pieces. “This is just the beginning,” says Thierry. The new timepieces are a bold reinterpretation of the “elegant sporty” style with their interesting square-shaped cases.

Cuitus cufflinks: A stylish addition

Patek Philippe extended the Cubitus collection’s design language into the realm of accessories, offering matching cufflinks that mirror the timepiece’s aesthetic. Available in platinum, rose gold, and white gold, these cufflinks feature the same sunburst motifs and horizontal relief embossing, making them the ideal complement to the Cubitus watches.

So what’s next for the Swiss Maison and their new square-faced pieces? According to Thierry, “There’s plenty more to come as a family. Don’t forget it’s like a chess game… what I’m doing today, I anticipate the many steps in front.” Concluding “There will be other pieces. Which is why I could create a whole new family.”
