The 2024 Formula 1 season closed in Abu Dhabi with spectators will witness a historic moment; Sir Lewis Hamilton’s final race with Mercedes, marking the end of a remarkable decade with the team.
As his time with Mercedes draws to a close, he is making headlines once again as he joins the Ferrari team, signalling an exhilarating new phase, in what has already been a record-breaking career.
As he turns this new corner, he will be joining Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, who is excited to have a seven-time World Champion on the team. In Hamilton’s stead; F2 graduate,18-year-old Italian, Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli will be taking the wheel at Mercedes.
Beyond the racetrack, Hamilton remains the only black F1 driver and is dedicated to promoting a more inclusive future for young people globally. Hamilton is proudly from a working-class background and has worked extremely hard to be where he is today. His charity, Mission44, is a testament to his commitment to the cause.
This personal passion project was founded by Hamilton in 2021 and aims to build a fairer, more inclusive future for young people all around the world. The charity is devoted to providing opportunities so that young people from all walks of life can succeed. Hamilton states: “In the environments and the industries that I work within, I realised how there is such a huge lack of diversity the higher you go up into these systems, I just couldn’t understand it, surely there are so many talented people from all walks of life, from all different backgrounds, why are they not filtering through into, for example, my world?”
Mission 44 holds auctions, charity dinners, and events for sporting enthusiasts offering meet and greets with Hamilton. To create opportunities and promote diversity, Mission 44 is a testament to his pursuit of positive change in engineering and F1.
Whether behind the wheel or through his charitable endeavours, Hamilton’s impact is undeniable, and his journey continues to captivate audiences the world over.
