During Milan Fashion Week last September, Weekend Max Mara unveiled its anticipated first collaboration with supermodel-philanthropist-entrepreneur Lily Aldridge. It’s the ‘From Lily With Love’ collection that combines the brand’s free-spirited femininity, Italian flair and contemporary vision with Lily’s Californian heritage and 1970s hippie-meets-boho vibe.
“I love the ease and elegance of the Weekend Max Mara style,” says Lily. “I’m such a big fan [of the brand] and to create a line in collaboration with them is a big deal. I’m grateful for their trust and guidance.”
From linen pantsuits to bishop-sleeved blouses, and silk pyjamas to floaty dresses in eyelet cotton and gauzy textures, the chic and easy line makes the perfect summer travel wardrobe.
“I love the whole collection. Every piece is important and beautiful to me, from the denim ones to the flowing dresses,” Lily states. Of her personal style, she shares, “I love to mix and match and try to stay away from things that are too trendy. I like a more classic approach to fashion.”
Many designs were inspired by Lily’s father Alan, a renowned English illustrator, who used vivid hues and floral motifs as a recurrent theme. “He loved three- piece suits, denim on denim, and vibrant colours and patterns—he always looked cool and timeless,” notes Lily. “I wanted the collection to feel light, bright and fun. It was meant to have a 1970s mood—a nod to my rock-and-roll side with a touch of elegance.”
Among the design highlights are accessories like a hat, silk scarves, shoes, and new iterations of the iconic Pasticcino bag. In the photography campaign, Lily looks ethereal in the brightly-coloured pieces that exude joie de vivre. “We had such a great time shooting the collection. I’ve always loved every part of fashion—from the design to the photo shoots that follow,” holds Lily. “It’s an amazing industry full of creative and wonderful people who I feel lucky to work with.”
