Founded in 2015 by Khalid Al Qasimi, Qasimi is a London-based brand that focuses on creating pieces that reflect its multicultural background.
It recently unveiled its newest fall 2021 collection during London Fashion Week, highlighting four recurring themes across the brand’s designs: architecture, color, military and messaging.
From oversized jackets and knitwear, to flowy skirts and sheer shirts, Qasimi reinvents the idea of streetwear with asymmetrical silhouettes that allow for fluidity in movement.
The colors are very often inspired by Middle Eastern landscapes and the new autumn/winter collection reflects just that, with orange, yellow and brown hues throughout.
The pieces also offer a new take on the camo print, influenced by the designer’s upbringings during the Gulf War.
Ever since its creation nearly six years ago, the brand has been raising awareness on important social issues through fashion. This is where messaging comes in, particularly in the newest collection where the expression, “We All Live Under the Same Sky,” is prominent.
Qasimi pushes you to question the world around you with embroidered text on a selection of hoodies, sweaters and shirts with expressions such as “We the People,” “Love is Resistance,” and “Your Silence Won’t Protect You.”
After Khalid Al Qasimi’s sad passing in 2019, his sister Hoor, took over the role of creative director and continues to follow in her brother’s footsteps and shines light on important current world and social affairs.
