Think about Art Deco and it instantly summons up visuals of bejewelled dresses, Tiffany glass, and gilded façades. These decorative elements inspire the two new additions to luxury British perfumery Clive Christian’s Noble collection, the XXI Art Deco Blonde Amber and Amberwood fragrances.
The first spritz will immerse you in the extravagant indulgences of Art Deco and amber—one of the period’s most precious perfume ingredients and colours that’s at the heart of the new scents. The collection carries a 25% perfume oil concentration and a mélange of the finest ingredients.
Blonde Amber explores the smoky, spicy and floral qualities of amber that are paired with a blonde tobacco note, taking inspiration from artist Tamara de Lempicka’s famed painting, Young Lady with Gloves (1930). It opens with notes like sparkling pink pepper and bitter orange, with blonde tobacco, tuberose and sweet dried fruit at its heart, and sumptuous tonka, vetivert and myrrh at its base that leave a captivating trail.
Amberwood explores the pure form of ambergis that’s inspired by amber tree resins. With top notes of fresh angelica seed, pink pepper, bergamot and sage, it offers a sensuous coming together of intriguing timber, patchouli and tobacco at its heart, and aromatic sage, amber and oud that invoke warmth as the base notes.
Adding to the Clive Christian allure, the perfumer has collaborated with coveted London-based jewellery designer Tomas Donocik for a bespoke brooch that’s crafted with diamonds and sapphires, echoing the colour palette of amber and the grand ballroom chandeliers from the Art Deco era. “For this particular brooch, the colours of the stones resemble the soft hues of the amber found within the perfumes themselves, translating the olfactory into a precious bejewelled piece,” Tomasz said in a release.
A miniature version of the brooch, which is gold-plated and made with a single piece of amber, will be gifted to consumers who purchase both new, or one new and one other perfume from the Noble collection. Cast in bronze, a beloved Art Deco material, it features real amber panels and enamelled embellishments. With its abstract design and geometric shape, the unisex piece is perfect to wear on an abaya, kandura or jacket.
