If you’re just beginning to get back into your gym routine or have been going to the gym for a while, there are many things to keep in mind to ensure you stay safe and secure in a public setting. Here, we’ve rounded up a list of tips for you to keep in mind while getting back to the comfort of your fitness routines.
Be aware of the new layout of the gym
Make sure you have a look around the gym to see how many pieces of equipment have been removed or relocated. This will ensure you have a stress- and hassle-free workout session. If need be, ask the helpers to clean down the equipment before you use it.
Clean all the equipment
Gyms will be regularly sanitized during the day but gym-goers can go the extra mile to avoid any potential risk by wiping and cleaning any equipment and surfaces they need to touch before using them. Ask the cleaning staff for an antibacterial wipe or spray just before you use the equipment yourself to be extra careful.
Change and shower at home
To avoid using the changing rooms at your gym, jump right into the shower as soon as you get home. This habit will avoid the risk of cross-contamination and also reduce the time you spend in the gym.
Wear a facemask and carry gloves
Ensure you always wear or carry a disposable mask with you. As per government guidelines, this is permitted to be removed or lowered when doing strenuous activity. If you have the habit of constantly touching your face, then it’s advised to wear gloves as a precaution. Do make sure to wash your hand thoroughly if you take the gloves off.
Always keep a towel and water bottle handy
It’s only natural to sweat and pant while in the gym. Carrying a towel and water bottle for yourself is always a good idea. You can even carry an extra towel to wipe down the equipment after use.
2-meter distance, please
Since mid-June, a large majority of fitness centers and gyms have been back to operating at 100% capacity while adhering to all earlier Covid-19 precautionary measures and safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities. It’s not uncommon to have people wait for their chance at an equipment, so if the line is too long – move on to workout with whatever is available. If you’re waiting, then make sure to leave reasonable distance between yourself and the person in front of, and behind you.
Stay home if you’re sick
If you feel any discomfort or believe you may have been in contact with someone who is COVID-19-positive, then the best thing to do is stay at home. Although all facilities have contactless screening of guests and visitors, staying home is the first step to prevent the spread of the virus and help keep others safe.
