The Escapement: A New Horology Platform Is Launching in Abu Dhabi This November

Abu Dhabi is set to host The Escapement, a three-day horology platform launching November 20–22, 2026, that is positioning itself as a different kind of watch event,  designed from the collector’s perspective rather than that of the industry.

Confirmed participating brands include Greubel Forsey, Louis Vuitton, Rexhep Rexhepi, Chopard, Biver, and Romain Gauthier. The event will run a programme of intimate conversations, masterclasses, global-first unveilings, and Abu Dhabi-exclusive timepieces, alongside cultural and live music programming. Venue location and ticketing details will follow in a Phase Two announcement in June.

The platform was co-founded by watch journalist and collector Anish Bhatt, who has been vocal about the gap between how the watch industry presents itself and how collectors actually engage with pieces. “Collectors have always been the people who give horology its meaning,” Bhatt said, “yet the formats through which watches are presented rarely reflect how collectors actually engage with them.” The format at The Escapement is designed to close that gap with presentations to be contextualised with narrative and dialogue, so attendees understand not just what a watch is, but the technical and philosophical decisions behind it.

Michel Nydegger, CEO of Greubel Forsey, described the event as a space where the brand’s relationship with its collecting community can develop meaningfully. “We can share our ideas and our passion with the people who care about them most,” he said.

The day-to-night format means cultural programming such as live performances, creative events, and runs alongside the watchmaking content, not as a side attraction but as a deliberate part of the experience. The stated aim is to deepen the emotional connection between collectors and makers through shared moments rather than scheduled product presentations.

The Escapement is framing Abu Dhabi as the place where significant horological moments happen first, a positioning that reflects the emirate’s broader push to establish itself as a destination for prestige cultural events.
