Sheikha Al Mayassa Al Thani opens Qatar Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai

Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, attended on Tuesday the inauguration of the Qatar Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The event highlighted the pivotal role of national pavilions in shaping narratives of identity, culture and creative legacy.

A couple of days prior to the official opening, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa visited the Qatar Pavilion to review its final preparations. Taking to social media, she shared: ‘I am delighted to be back in Japan, where we successfully celebrated the Qatar–Japan Year of Culture in 2012, and where the strong ties between our two nations continue to thrive after more than 50 years of friendship. It’s a pleasure to see the Qatar Pavilion preparations at Expo Osaka 2025 as part of this ongoing cultural dialogue.

During her visit to Japan, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa attended the grand opening of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka and paid a visit to the Omani Pavilion.

The design of the Qatar Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is a celebration of the profound cultural exchange between Qatar and Japan. Drawing inspiration from both Qatari and Japanese heritage, the pavilion reflects shared elements such as a deep-rooted connection to the sea. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the structure features an elegant wooden framework enveloped in taut white fabric — an homage to the traditional Qatari sambuk boat and the exquisite craftsmanship of Japanese wood joinery.

Qatar Pavilion for Expo Osaka covers an approximate area of 1,292 square meters. The exhibition within the pavilion will spotlight the progress made towards the Qatar National Vision 2030 and present opportunities for investment aimed at economic diversification as outlined in the Third Qatar National Development Strategy 2024-30.
