This event marks Sheikha Sara Bint Hamad Al Thani’s first public engagement
After a year of cultural events celebrating Moroccan culture and heritage in Qatar, the year was brought to a close with HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa of Morocco and HE Sheikha Sara bint Hamad Al Thani attending the Tbourida Show at the Shaqab Equestrian Centre in Doha on Tuesday.
The Tbourida show, an equestrian event, honours a traditional and popular art form in Moroccan heritage. It was held to celebrate the festival events.
Tbourida was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021. This tradition, which combines speed, endurance, and grace, reflects Morocco’s deep connection to the horse, a noble creature deeply rooted in the kingdom’s heritage.
The sister of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikha Sara, warmly welcomed HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa upon her arrival. The Moroccan princess chose an embroidered caftan adorned with flowers and bright colours.
Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani took to Instagram, saying, “Concluding the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture with a tribute to the rich traditions and deep cultural bonds between our nations at the Tbourida show at Al Shaqab tonight. The captivating show was a fitting finale to a remarkable year of collaboration and exchange, showcasing Moroccan equestrian excellence and a shared dedication to preserving heritage through the universal language of art.”
The Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024 was marked by a series of major events organised in both Qatar and Morocco, showcasing the rich art and culture of Morocco.
Highlights in Qatar included the exhibition of the Berber Jewelry Collection from the Royal Palace, the creation of the “Dar Al Maghreb” pavilion — an immersive space celebrating Moroccan culture and history, inspired by the architecture of Ksar Aït Benhaddou (Ouarzazate Province) — along with the exhibitions “Splendors of the Atlas: A Journey Through the Heritage of Morocco” and “Ektashif: Morocco.” Additionally, the “Caftan Fashion Show” was held in the Qatari capital.
In Morocco, the country hosted the “Longines Global Champions Tour,” a prestigious international show jumping event that brought together the world’s best riders and horses in Rabat. The “Fashion Trust Arabia,” a flagship event highlighting Arab fashion creativity, and the “Qatar Africa Business Forum,” were both held in Marrakech.
