Marni’s Traveling Runway Is Set To Land In Tokyo

Marni will stage its Fall 2023 runway show in Tokyo this February, according to creative director Francesco Risso via WWD. The show, which is expected to host approximately 2,500 guests, will take place on February 1 at 8 p.m. local time.

On the brand’s decision to show its FW23 collection in Japan, Risso told the outlet: “A year ago, I decided to stage a series of traveling shows with our team and a crew of musicians to bring energy to different cities and give back to our friends and communities around the world.” He added that the brand’s goal is “to be present in the epicenters of our communities and not in some remote or isolated places.”

Marni first opened a brick-and-mortar branch in Japan in 2020; today, the label operates with 28 locations in the country: two standalone stores, three outlets and 23 shops-in-shops. Marni opened its first flagship in the country in Omotesando in 2019, and the brand will open a second flagship in Tokyo within the next two years.

The Japan show will mark the second leg of Marni’s traveling shows, following the brand’s runway in New York City in September, which was held under the Joralemon Tunnel in Brooklyn. Risso told WWD that he has four traveling shows planned, though he does not know the remaining two locations at this time.
