From Beekeeping to Desert Plants: Terra’s New Membership is at the Centre of the Natural World

Terra at Expo City Dubai launched a new membership programme on 9 April, offering year-round access to its expert-led experiences in ecology, climate science, and urban biodiversity. The programme, called Time for Nature, takes members beyond a standard exhibition visit into direct, hands-on engagement with living systems such as fungi, pollinators, desert plants, soil ecosystems, and more — led by scientists and specialists across twelve sessions running from 2026 into 2027.

“At a time when daily life is increasingly defined by urgency and constant attention, we wanted to create something fundamentally different at Terra,” said Marjan Faraidooni, Chief of Education and Culture at Expo City Dubai. “This membership invites people to step away from the noise, reconnect with the natural world, and build a lasting sense of belonging within it.”

The programme opens with Secrets of Terra on 25 April, a 90-minute members-only session led by Sheena Khan, Head of Environmental Programs and one of the founding team members behind Terra’s creation. The guided experience moves through the venue’s behind-the-scenes spaces, uncovering the stories and systems most visitors never encounter.

Sessions across the rest of the year span a broad range of disciplines. Fungi Uncovered in May puts members to work with live cultures and microscopes, thinking through desert mycology alongside specialists. Eyes in the Sky in June uses real satellite imagery to map land change and signs of desertification. November brings Step Into the Beekeeper Suit, a suited walk through the pollinator garden with live hive observation. The 2027 calendar opens with Plants with Stories in February, an ethnobotanical exploration of native UAE plants and the cultural knowledge held within them.

Alongside the monthly sessions, membership includes unlimited exhibition access, entry to Terra’s public programming and festivals, discounts on food, beverages, and retail, and a subscription to the members’ newsletter.

Formally known as Terra: The World’s Living Wonder, is one of the UAE’s flagship sustainability landmarks, designed as a self-sustaining structure that generates its own energy and water. The membership programme extends that founding purpose beyond the building itself, giving members a reason to return not just to learn, but to stay connected to the natural world across an entire year.
