Empowering Women in Adventure: Sheikha Asma Al Thani Awarded at the Everest Tourism Award 2025

Following her proud announcement in October last year of completing the Explorer’s Grand Slam and becoming the first Arab and Qatari woman to achieve this incredible feat, Sheikha Asma Al Thani is now being honoured at the Everest Tourism Award 2025 for her exceptional mountaineering journey and her inspiring influence on women in adventure sports.

Sheikha Asma began her mountaineering journey with Kilimanjaro in 2014. Since then, she has conquered six of the Seven Summits and eight of the world’s 14 highest peaks, including Manaslu without supplemental oxygen.

The event took place on 15th January 2025, with the theme highlighting the importance of sustainable tourism in preserving the Himalayan region.

Sheikha Asma Al Thani took to her Instagram to share this wonderful recognition with the world:
“I’m deeply honoured to be recognised at the Everest Tourism Award 2025 for my journey in mountaineering and inspiring women in adventure sports. Nepal, with its breathtaking mountains and incredible people, will always feel like a second home to me.”

The Sheikha continued by thanking her family for their unwavering support: “This isn’t just my achievement. It belongs to my family, who’ve been my anchor through it all, and to the amazing guides, teams, and friends who’ve stood beside me on every climb. To everyone out there who dares to dream, this is for you.”

In her speech, Sheikha Asma didn’t forget to proudly mention her country, Qatar: “Every summit I’ve stood on, with the Qatari flag in my hands, has been a moment of immense pride and gratitude, a tribute to my country and all it represents.”

Professionally, Sheikha Asma Al Thani serves as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Qatar Olympic Committee. In September 2024, she was appointed Vice President of the Gender Equality Committee at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
