My passion as a director is storytelling. From a young age, I was captivated by the power of stories – how they can transcend time and culture, and spark emotions, change perspectives, and foster connections between people. I found my calling through a combination of personal experiences and an intense curiosity about human nature and society.
I grew up in an environment that encouraged creativity and a deep appreciation for both art and heritage, and film became my tool to express these influences. Whether it’s exploring the richness of Emirati culture or examining universal themes, film is the language through which I connect with others. It’s not just about making movies – it’s about conveying emotions, messages, and truths that resonate on a global scale.
Being Emirati has deeply influenced both my worldview and my approach to film-making. Growing up in the UAE, I’ve been fortunate to witness a society that is rapidly evolving while still honouring its deep-rooted traditions.
This unique juxtaposition has given me a sense of balance and respect for both the modern and the traditional. The diversity in the UAE – its mix of cultures, people, and ideas – has taught me the importance of embracing change without losing sight of one’s heritage.
It’s shaped my storytelling to focus not just on local narratives but also on universal themes, showing that even in our differences, we share common human experiences. This perspective drives me to create films that are grounded in my identity as an Emirati, while also aiming to resonate globally, connecting people beyond borders.
The UAE has played a pivotal role in empowering me to reach where I am today, both as a filmmaker and as an individual.
The country’s forward-thinking leadership, commitment to cultural development, and investment in the arts have provided me with opportunities that might not have been available elsewhere.
The UAE’s dynamic creative industry is rapidly growing, and it’s a place where innovation is encouraged, regardless of your background.
The government’s focus on supporting young Emirati talent through initiatives has made it possible for me to pursue my passion while staying connected to my roots.
As a female director, I’m committed to mentoring emerging talent, especially young women in the industry. By sharing my experiences, offering guidance, and creating opportunities for collaboration, I hope to inspire the next generation of filmmakers to pursue their dreams and break barriers. I believe in fostering an inclusive creative community where all voices are heard and valued.
I wish I had known earlier that patience and resilience are just as important as talent. The journey in film-making is full of challenges, and learning to trust the process and stay persistent is key to success. It’s a long-term commitment, and embracing setbacks as part of growth makes all the difference.
The next challenge I’m excited to take on is participating in the Emirates LitFest. It’s a great opportunity to engage with fellow creatives, share my journey, and explore new narratives. Alongside this, I’m currently reading new scripts for upcoming drama series and feature films, which I’m eager to bring to life and expand my storytelling horizons.
As a proud Emirati, I aim to represent my culture by telling authentic, meaningful stories that reflect both the rich traditions and the evolving modernity of the UAE.
I want to showcase the depth of our values, family bonds, and heritage, while also highlighting the country’s progressive spirit and diverse, global identity.
Through my work, I hope to offer a deeper understanding of Emirati culture and connect with audiences worldwide on a human level.
