Emirati Designer Shatha Essa Has Launched A Kaftan Design Competition You Don’t Want To Miss

You read that right. Emirati designer Shatha Essa is giving you the opportunity to design your own kaftan with her new quarantine game. As you sit back in your cozy armchair at home this Ramadan, sketch what you envision to be a design of your dreams and Shatha can make it a reality.

At once fun and fabulous, the game involves two easy steps:

  1. Follow @shathaessaofficial on Instagram
  2. DM your design on the above account by today

All the designs will then be posted on Instagram stories @shathaessaofficial and the one with the most votes will win. Voting will begin on Friday, 15 May and last for 24 hours. The winner will be announced on Villa 88 and Shatha’s official Instagram handles, so watch these spaces.

And wait till you find out what the grand prize is. If you’re the winner, your design will be produced and sent to you as a gift. It’ll be named after you and sold on for two months. What’s more? Since it’s your design, you’ll earn a share of the profit as well – we’re talking up to Dhs10,000, terms and conditions apply.

Al Faya Tones collection

Shatha has also rolled out a collection titled ‘Al Faya Tones’ for Ramadan, which gives a nod to the eponymous caves, known as the oldest documented archaeological site in Mleiha, Sharjah. “Once inspiration hits, I drop everything and start drawing. Al Faya Cave is exactly what I needed for this Ramadan collection,” says Shatha.

Think about effortlessly elegant gowns and coats in muted tones, with embroidery and motifs that evoke the colors and textures of copper tools and ceramic artifacts that are found in the caves. “It was time that I draw inspiration from my land and give back to my beautiful country in forms of flowy silhouettes and billowing taupe dresses.” Explore the collection now to be Eid-ready.
