Saudi National Day: HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud reflects on the Kingdom’s positive transformation, vision, and future

Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud is widely regarded as one of the most influential women in Saudi Arabia. A passionate advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment, she also stands as a distinguished leader in global philanthropy, her vision continuing to inspire new generations.

She made her first mark in publishing, founding Mada magazine at a time when few women in the Kingdom were stepping into the media world. This bold move drew the attention of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Talal AlSaud, the entrepreneur and philanthropist, whose recognition marked a turning point in her career. Soon after, she took the reins of Rotana magazine, where her voice and leadership began to resonate more widely.

Her journey soon expanded into the world of philanthropy with Alwaleed Philanthropies, an organisation that champions humanitarian causes worldwide. Today, as the Secretary General, HRH Princess Lamia combines vision with action, shaping initiatives that touch countless lives. Parallel to this, she leads as CEO of Rotana Media Group, placing her at the helm of both media and philanthropy. Her influence has also extended onto the global stage: in 2020, she was appointed the first UN-Habitat Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab region, championing sustainable development, gender inclusion, and youth empowerment — a commitment reaffirmed by her reappointment for a third term in 2025–2026.

In celebration of Saudi Arabia’s 95th National Day, Villa88 spotlights a select circle of the Kingdom’s most inspiring figures. HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, the Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies and CEO of Rotana Media Group, shares a personal message to mark the occasion.

Reflecting on the occasion, Princess Lamia shared with Villa 88:

“This Saudi National Day, celebrated under the theme ‘Pride in Our Nature,’ is a moment to honour 95 years of a journey built on vision, sacrifice, and belief. From those foundations, our Kingdom entered a new chapter a decade ago, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and shaped by the bold vision of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman through the transformative ambition of Vision 2030. It is a chapter that has unlocked the true power of our people and turned dreams once thought impossible into reality.

When Rayyanah Barnawi carried our flag into space, she reminded the world that the sky is not our limit, but our beginning. When Princess Reema bint Bandar became the Kingdom’s first female ambassador, she reshaped the global understanding of Saudi leadership. And when our women’s football team stepped onto the international stage, they reflected the courage and determination of a new era.

These milestones are not the conclusion of our story, but the opening chapters of what is yet to come. With Vision 2030 guiding our path, the role of Saudi women will continue to grow bold, without boundaries, and always grounded in the values of our Kingdom. Now we are only taxiing, takeoff hasn’t even begun yet!”
