What does it mean to craft a legacy? I used to believe that legacies were exclusively bequeathed by iconic rock bands or by visionaries that made a globally celebrated contribution to society, perhaps having re-invented economic, environmental or social standards and behaviours. While these achievements are of course, incredibly applaudable, it wasn’t until recent years while travelling on my own winding path, that I realised we are all crafting a legacy… we just don’t realise it.

Such is the case for our autumn edition’s cover star, Fatima Helal Al Blooshi, director of Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council. For Fatima, her passion for supporting female entrepreneurs is tightly woven into her DNA, but I’m sure, no, I know she doesn’t realise how inspirational she is, as I discovered when we spent the day together for our photoshoot and interview. “My objective is to guide the way for others on their own journey, whatever that may be.” She tells me, setting the tone for our conversation where her beliefs are both refreshingly frank and undeniably kind-hearted.

Fatima reminded me of the importance of risk-taking and speaking our truth, but also that there is a formidable grace in considered silence and empowering others to rise – a quality she effortlessly conveys.

Fatima is just one of many inspirational Emirati women we profile in this issue. We spoke to Hessa Al Ajmani, the prolific multi-disciplinary artist whose work extends like an open hand, urging us to pause and connect, Sara Al Bedwawi, the emerging designer turning the global fashion gaze to homegrown talent with her abaya brand, and Sara Al Sharouqi, the entrepreneurial creative on a mission to enrich the lives of those struggling with mental and physical challenges through arts and crafts workshops.

We also shine the spotlight on some of the Middle East’s most talented women including Jordanian Princess Nejla bint Asem, who graciously shared the story behind launching her eponymous jewellery brand with me, and Saudi Arabian Rally Car Driver, Dania Akeel, the first Arab woman to win the Cross Country Bajas T3 World Cup. We celebrate these, and all of the other women who are the pioneers of their own success stories.

Enjoy the issue and remember; we are all crafting a legacy in our own special way…
