Hands Is Inviting You To Weave Tolerance With A Handmade Carpet Worth Viewing

To mark the Year of Tolerance, Hands Carpets has collaborated with Senses Special Needs Center for the second time this year to produce a one-of-a-kind carpet. The resulting piece is a remarkable work of art, designed with branches and leaves of the Ghaf tree, the UAE’s national symbol. Making use of over 31 colours in 54 combinations, the piece underwent the processes of dyeing, weaving, backing and finishing, which took over 4 months to complete.

General Manager of Hands Carpets Middle East, Gavin Lewis, said in a release, “To mark the Year of Tolerance in the UAE in our own unique way, we proposed the idea to ‘weave tolerance’ into the social fabric of our society through the creativity of these gifted children. The very nature of threads in various colors and textures mixed together and then being so tightly woven is suggestive of a society without division. We are grateful to Nadia Khalil Al Sayegh and the team at Senses for putting their trust in us”. The finished piece will retail  at Dhs25,000, along with Hands’ exquisite hand-tufted and hand-knotted carpet collections from 12-15 November at Downtown Design. And as a fundraising initiative, all proceeds from sale will go to the non-profit organization which remains the first and only residential care facility for People of Determination in the Middle East.
