You Need To See This Visual Artist’s Colorful Depiction Of Muslim Women In Lagos

Drawing inspiration from the community of Muslim women in Nigeria’s capital, Lagos, is Medina Dugger’s exhibition ‘Enshroud’. The Californian visual artist who moved to Lagos in 2011, has created spectacular digital collages, layering them with photographs of hijabi women and plastic prayer mats. Medina has also been shortlisted for the Contemporary African Photography Awards for her ‘Enshroud’ series. She features the hijab as a veil in its abstract sense and hopes to shatter traditional perceptions of the veil, shining the spotlight on a woman’s freedom to religious expression.
