Emirati Pop Singer Hussain Al Jassmi Launches New Song Featuring HH Sheikh Hamdan’s Poetry

Emirati pop singer Hussain Al Jassmi has launched a new single, Darb Al She’er (The Path of Poetry), which features lyrics written by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

Composed by Emirati creative Fayez Al Saeed and written in the Nabati style of poetry under HH Sheikh Hamdan’s pen name ‘Fazza’, the poem is a tribute to the process of creativity, and the insights and challenges it entails, according to The National.

“My path and the path of poetry are one, not destined to be separated, whether its atmosphere is wrapped within clouds or dust,” the song opens. “I wish the pen knows its limits every time it sees the paper. Had it not been for the paper, the inkwell would’ve wept over the pen.”

Previously, Hussain was part of an ensemble of Emirati singers, including Ahlam, Mehad Hamad, and Balqees Fathi, who collectively performed Youm Al Ezz (Day of Pride) in 2014, a nine-minute composition featuring HH Sheikh Hamdan’s lyrics about leadership.

Fayez has also collaborated with HH Sheikh Hamdan before, composing tracks such as Syrian singer Assala Nasri’s Rouh wa Rouh (Just Go Away), and 2016’s multi-artist Sahet Al Sha’ar (The Poet’s Space), which was led by Mohammed Abdu from Saudi Arabia.
