Dream Casa: This Is Barcelona’s Hottest New Residential Address

Surrounded by architectural masterpieces and some of the most iconic shopping and dining destinations, the new Mandarin Oriental Residences building stands tall on Barcelona’s Passeig de Gracia. Designed by Spanish architect Carlos Ferrater, the 20-storey tower is the tallest residential building in the city, which means residents can enjoy splendid 270-degree views of the surroundings.

This first-of-its-kind offering from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is underpinned by a commitment to exclusivity. Featuring 30 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and four four-bedroom penthouses, this opulent address is being developed by Barcelona-based KKH Property Investors. “We’re delighted to be introducing the first standalone residences in a city known for its culture, diversity, gastronomy, history and architecture,” Paul Massot, group development director of Mandarin Oriental, said in a statement.

Rod Taylor, head of international new developments at Savills, which is marketing the development, added, “Barcelona is a city that marries vibrancy with historic culture and traditions, where old world meets the new, and here, amongst the towering cathedrals and architectural masterpieces, stands a world-first with the first-ever standalone Mandarin Oriental Residences.”

This latest move represents a growing global trend towards branded residences becoming more common. Such developments used to be more popular in resort destinations, but are now slowly surfacing in urban locations as well, thanks to surging demand. In fact, according to Rod, Barcelona was chosen precisely because it is “the ultimate urban destination with its mix of city culture and lifestyle.”

The Residences’ location on Passeig de Gràcia means it rubs shoulders with some of the most world-renowned architectural marvels. Among the most notable are legendary architect Antoni Gaudí’s iconic Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.

The highlights of the property include a wide range of on-site services and amenities that are available to residents, such as a fitness center, spa, resident’s lounge, swimming pool and a breathtaking 625-square-meter rooftop garden. The Residences also come with a 24-hour concierge, who are on-hand to provide residents with exclusive services such as in-residence dining and event catering.

And, since it’s managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, residents will also have access to facilities at the eponymous hotel in the city, which is located close to the Residences. This means residents can enjoy an award-winning spa as well as a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Moments. The Mandarin Oriental Residences began construction in late 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2020, presenting one of Barcelona’s most exclusive streets with an equally exclusive address.
