Be Better At Breathwork: How Breathing Therapy Can Change Your Life

Stress can really bring your life at a standstill but if you know a few basic breathing techniques, you’re sure to enhance your quality of life. Breathwork is a growingly popular experiential approach to psychotherapy, which expert Dan Brulé describes as the “art and science of using breath awareness and breathing exercises for health, growth, and change in body, mind and spirit.”

What kind of techniques are best for you may differ from person to person, but an easy one for you to try is coherent breathing, which translates to six breaths per minute, a five-second inhale, and a five-second exhale, making your breathing cycle 10 seconds long. “If you practice coherent breathing, then in just five minutes, the average person lowers their cortisol (the “stress” hormone) levels by 20%,” says Brulé, reported Grazia Middle East. So, increase your quality of life, one breath at a time.
