An Artistic Tribute to UAE’s Very Own Visual Creator: Najat Makki

Born in 1956, Emirati artist, Najat Makki, has led the artistic forefront with her prowess and with 40 years of creative work behind her it was almost inevitable for a day like this to come when her fervor for art would be saluted.

Being the first ever Emirati to receive an Arts scholarship abroad in 1977 and having graduated with a PhD in arts from College of Fine Arts (Cairo), she has reached new heights with riveting art pieces  –  with some of her works being showcased at biennials namely the Tehran and Venice Biennial. She was one of the key figures behind ‘Portrait of a Nation’ in Abu Dhabi. With many awards under her belt, the artist  remains relentless with her artistic creations such as the ‘Luminescence’ exhibit at the Al Hosn’s Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi taking place until the 15 of December.

We along with the 19 artists commemorate her contribution the UAE’s creative scene with a curation of her art work over the years.

Titled ‘Tribute: A dedication to Najat Makki’ the on-going exhibition coincides with the artists individual exhibition and features works of the following participating artists- Mohammed Mandi, Abdul Rahim Salim, Dr. Mohamed Yousif, Musa Al Halyan, Abdulrahman Zainal, Obaid Suroor, Mohammed Al Qassab, Ibrahim Al Awadhi, Mona Al Khaja, Khulood Al Jabri, Dr. Karima Al Shomely, Nassim Al Majed, Moaza Abushalibi, Mattar Bin Lahej, Jalal Luqman, Ali Al Abdan, Mohammed Al Astad, Khalil Abdulwahid and Aisha Al Suwaidi. It can be viewed in the Community Exhibition Hall of Qasr Al Hosn.
