When the UAE cools down, it invites residents and tourists to explore the country in a new way. Beyond the city escapes and coffee runs, it is a time when mountains become reachable and the quiet green spaces call for family picnics out in the open.
Here is a curated itinerary, from mountain adventures to garden walks.
Corniche, Abu Dhabi

Slow down along Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, an 8 km waterfront promenade with beaches, gardens, cycling paths, and skyline views. It is ideal for a winter evening walk, bike ride or picnic by the sea, with plenty of space to pause and watch the sun set over the water.
Ghost Village, Al Madam

Head into the Sharjah desert to Al Madam’s Buried Village, where abandoned houses and a mosque are slowly being reclaimed by sand. It is a surreal, photographic stop that feels far removed from the UAE’s modern skyline.
Sunrise Hike, Al Rabi Mountain Trail

For a more adventurous shift in the itinerary, set off before dawn for the Al Rabi Mountain Trail in Khor Fakkan. This easy, well-marked 5 km hike climbs to a viewpoint with sweeping coastal views, making it a rewarding half-day escape from Dubai. Taking roughly 2 to 3 hours to finish, it’s an easy start to a more adventurous winter.
Outdoor Museums, Alserkal Avenue

For a cultural shift in the itinerary, spend an afternoon wandering Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz. Once a cluster of warehouses, it is now Dubai’s leading arts district, with galleries, outdoor installations, design studios, cafés and independent creative spaces to explore.
Central Souq, Sharjah

Step into Sharjah’s traditional souks for a slower, more local side of the emirate. Wander through lanes of spices, textiles, perfumes and handicrafts, then pair the visit with the nearby heritage area for a glimpse of the UAE’s trading past.
Oasis Walk, Al Ain

The Al Ain Oasis with shaded pathways beneath thousands of date palms and the ancient falaj irrigation systems offer a calm contrast to the mountain hikes and a good place to slow down, walk, cycle, and even learn about how these ancient water systems shaped desert life.
Mountain Biking, Mushrif Park

Mushrif Park offers a range of activities to explore, with mountain biking among the most exciting. With around 20 km of professional mountain bike trails running through the forest, it offers a unique experience for both beginners and pro riders.
Flower Farms, Masafi

Add colour to the itinerary with a stop at Masafi. Set within the Hajar Mountains, with farms growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers, Wadi Asimah Flower Farm is the perfect place to seek some respite from city life. Click pictures, spend time with your loved ones and create new winter memories.
