    World Mental Health Day: 5 Voices to Follow for Better Mental Wellbeing

    With World Mental Health Day falling on 10 October, it’s a reminder that mental health should be a priority for everyone. It’s also a time to raise awareness and celebrate the importance of better mental well-being.

    To mark the occasion, we round up five voices in the region who are strong advocates for mental health and well-being.

    Sayyida Dr. Basma Al Said

    With over 21 years of experience, Sayyida Dr Basma Al Said is an Omani mental health specialist and a pioneer in mental health awareness in the Middle East. She is the founder of Whispers of Serenity Clinic, Oman’s first private mental health and psychological counselling clinic. Renowned for addressing taboo subjects such as abuse and eating disorders, she has dedicated her work to raising awareness of mental health, encouraging open conversations and making psychological support more accessible across the region.     Dr Saliha Afridi

    Dr Saliha Afridi is a leading voice in mental health and well-being in the UAE. A clinical psychologist, she is the co-founder of The LightHouse Arabia, based in Dubai. Through her work, she helps make mental health conversations more accessible, sharing practical insights on emotional well-being, self-awareness, relationships and building healthier habits.     Sheikha Majda Al Sabah

    She is the founder of Houna, a wellness platform that aims to destigmatise mental health in the region through educational resources, community discussions and daily well-being content. Through initiatives such as Houna Talks, which features clinical psychologists and health professionals, the platform encourages open conversations and makes mental health information more accessible. She also uses her Instagram to promote mental health awareness and encourage her followers to prioritise their emotional well-being. (@majdajs)

    Tess Pereira

    Tess Pereira is definitely a voice to follow for her work in mental health and well-being, particularly when it comes to managing stress, preventing burnout and building emotional resilience. Based in Dubai, she combines her background in psychology and coaching to share practical insights that help people develop healthier habits and find a better balance in their daily lives.     Sheikha Haya Al Khalifa

    Bahraini Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa advocates for well-being, self-love, gratitude and inner peace. Through her self-improvement courses, journalling practice and online content, she encourages women to make time for self-reflection and personal growth.
