H.H Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed  launches ‘Ode to a Camel’ an homage to Emirati heritage

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of the Crown Prince of Fujairah, has launched Ode to a Camel, a book that captures the timeless beauty of one of the world’s most revered animals through Her Highness’s lens.

Published by Assouline, Ode to a Camel is a photography and poetry volume in which Her Highness turns her lens and her literary voice toward one of the UAE’s most enduring national symbols. Launched at Dubai Mall on Saturday, the book moves between visual storytelling and reflective verse to explore the camel not simply as a desert creature but as a living archive of Emirati identity: a symbol of resilience, loyalty, and collective memory that has shaped the nation’s sense of itself across generations.

The project was a personal one from the outset. On the day of the launch, Sheikha Latifa took to Instagram to acknowledge the constant support of her husband, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, her “life companion,” as she described him, whose belief in the work, she wrote, carried her from its earliest beginnings to its completion.

Fine art photographer and creative mentor Antonio Saba, who accompanied Her Highness during part of the photographic journey, was clear in crediting the collaboration to her vision entirely. “The book’s visual and emotional language is wholly the result of Her Highness’s artistic talent,” he said, describing the experience as an honour.

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed announced that the proceeds from the book will be dedicated to supporting charitable projects and initiatives, reflecting a deep belief in the power of culture and art to serve humanity and uplift society.
