Hermès is hosting an exhibition devoted to the Chaîne d’ancre at Dubai Mall this week.
One of the Maison’s most iconic objects, the motif was originally designed back in 1937 by Robert Dumas. Inspired by the chunky links of a ship’s anchor chain, he began sketching designs. The first silver bracelet was released in 1938, and thus was born the House’s icon.
The exhibition, taking place until Sunday September 21st, will showcase 11 collections of Chaîne d’ancre that have been designed by Pierre Hardy, Hermès’ Creative Director.
Pierre treats the motif as an “archetypal form,” altering scale, material, and structure. You can expect to see delicate micro-links transition to bold, oversized pendants and colours, ranging from silver to rose and white gold.
What makes Chaîne d’ancre so interesting is how the humble chain has been turned into both a motif and a luxury jewel.
