How To: Maintain Healthy Skin In A Desert Climate

Living in a hot climate such as the Middle East can be a challenge for skin. The dry air, intense sun, air conditioning and dust can take a toll on the complexion. Here’s how to enjoy the beauty of the desert while keeping skin radiant and healthy…

Hydrate from the inside out

One of the most important things you can do for your skin in hot climates is to drink plenty of water. Water helps to flush out toxins, replenish moisture, and nourish cells. Aim for at least ten cups of water per day. You can also hydrate with coconut water, which has electrolytes, vitamins and minerals that can boost the skin’s health.

Eat foods rich in antioxidants

Antioxidants are substances that protect skin from free-radical damage caused by environmental factors such as UV rays, pollution, and dust. Some of the best sources of antioxidants are fruits and vegetables, especially those high in vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for collagen production, which keeps your skin firm and elastic. Some of the foods that are rich in vitamin C are oranges, strawberries, kiwis, papayas, blueberries, and sweet potatoes.

Protect skin from the sun

The sun is one of the biggest enemies for skin in the desert. It can cause premature aging, wrinkles, sunspots, and even skin cancer. That’s why you need to protect skin from the sun every day with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and clothing. Choose a sunscreen that has at least SPF 30 and broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. Re-apply every two hours, or more often if you sweat or swim. Avoid sun exposure between 10a.m. and 4p.m., when the sun is strongest.

Humidify your environment

Another way to keep your skin hydrated is to use a humidifier in your home or office. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, which can prevent skin from drying out and cracking. It can also help with other issues like dry eyes, allergies, and asthma. You can also add essential oils to a humidifier for extra benefits. For example, lavender oil is known to be relaxing, rose oil can brighten your mood, and tea tree oil can help fight infections.

By following these tips and tricks, you can maintain healthy and glowing skin in the desert climate. Remember to treat your skin with care and love, and it will reward you with beauty and radiance.
