In need of some travel inspiration? Two influential GCC women share their favourite places to explore, relax in, and try new cuisines this autumn.

Sheikha Hesa Al Khalifa
Bahraini – Emirati chef and menu consultant Sheikha Hesa Al Khalifa says travel is her greatest source of inspiration.
“I love travelling because every journey teaches me something new. As a chef, travelling is one of my greatest sources of inspiration,” she tells Villa 88. “It allows me to discover local ingredients, learn traditional cooking techniques, and understand the stories behind different cuisines. Every market I visit, every restaurant I dine in, and every conversation with local chefs influences my creativity.”
When it comes to her ideal destinations for the fall season, her top pick is immediately clear. “For an autumn city break, it has to be London,” she shares. “As a chef, I find the British capital one of the most inspiring food destinations in the world.”
“Its culinary scene is incredibly diverse, blending traditional British cuisine with flavours from every corner of the globe. I love exploring everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to hidden neighbourhood gems and vibrant food markets,” she reveals. “One of my favourite places is the Southbank street food market by the river.”

When it comes to autumn hiking and outdoor adventures, however, she prefers to stay closer to home. “I would go to Hatta in Dubai,” she shares. “The rugged mountains, scenic trails, and peaceful surroundings offer a unique escape from the city. One of my favourite places to eat is Tanoor Restaurant. I especially love their slow-cooked lamb – it literally melts in your mouth!” “Combining stunning landscapes, fresh air, and a sense of adventure, visiting Hatta is always a refreshing and memorable experience,” she adds.

For relaxation, her go-to destination is Bali. “Its tranquil beaches, lush rice terraces, luxury wellness retreats, and warm hospitality make it the perfect place to unwind,” the chef notes.
“My favourite area is Canggu Beach,” she adds. “I love the whole atmosphere there – the cafés, beach lifestyle, and the relaxed vibe. Whether it’s enjoying a sunrise by the ocean or a peaceful spa experience, Bali always helps me recharge both physically and mentally.

Her Excellency Nouf Al Bushlaibi
Her Excellency Nouf Al Bushlaibi is the Executive Advisor of Corporate Affairs and Strategic Partnerships at ADNOC Distribution. She loves to experience the culture, food, and people of different cities and discover a new part of herself at every destination.

“Boston, USA, is my favourite city, and the one I called home as a student,” she shares. “It’s a city that learns and grows, and it’s full of positivity and young, curious minds from all corners of the world.”
“I love walking in Harvard Square, discovering boutique shops full of unique finds like books, home accessories, and fashion,” H.E. Nouf adds. “Walking along the Charles River, where the smell of autumn leaves meets ducks and swans drifting by, also takes my breath away every time.”
Morning walks through the market by Boston Harbour is another ritual she loves. “Soaking up the salty air, the bustle of vendors, and the city waking up slowly around you… Attending a Celtics game and seeing the whole city cheer as one is another must-do, as is experiencing the magic of Newbury Street and its shops and restaurants wrapped in beautiful architecture,” she says.

Another preferred autumn city break for H.E. Nouf is Paris. “The city of love, or should I say charm,” she laughs. “For me, it’s the friends who call this city home that make it truly enchanting – the ones who show you Paris beyond the postcards. From cycling past the Louvre to flower-arranging classes that restore the mind, and losing an hour inside Assouline bookstore, Paris is about finding joy in the details.”
“A quiet corner at Le Bon Marché is where I go for coffee, a small ritual that makes the everyday feel a little more beautiful,” she reveals. “And of course, the simple joy of a warm croissant.”
The Emirati executive is also a huge aficionado of the Louvre, not just for the art, but for the curiosity it awakens, revealing Paris from a completely different angle. “Paris doesn’t just show itself to you. It invites you in, one corner, one friend, one croissant at a time,” she reflects.

And finally, she lists a recent trip among her most treasured travel memories. “Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, meeting friends for lunch at a beautiful restaurant, then returning to the city by ferry – even on a trip full of plans, I believe you have to find small windows to truly appreciate the place you’re in,” she says. “From the weather to the food and the company, it was the perfect day.”
