Exploring Hong Kong from the luxury of The Langham

Hong Kong is a beautiful contradiction. It’s a city with pulsing energy coursing through its teeming streets, where highrises meet horticulture with acres of parks and greenery stretching across the multi-level metropolis.

Located in the lively Tsim Sha Tsui district of Kowloon, within the fashion quarters of Canton Road, The Langham Hong Kong places guests in the heart of the action. With the glittering Victoria Harbour as its backdrop, it’s walking distance from the city’s renowned Star Ferry and the MTR underground station, and a 35-minute drive from Hong Kong International Airport. With a frisson of old-world meets new, the neighbourhood blends history in a haven of luxury.

Inside, it’s all tradition and contemporary comforts, European elegance and The Langham’s signature unpretentious codes of hospitality excellence. Refinement sweeps through its 498 guest rooms and suites – from the spacious 31.6sqm Superior Courtyard View Room perfect for easy living and to the exceptional 122.6sqm Chairman Suite, each finished with beautiful design details and all the mod-cons required during a stay. Its suites reposition the hotel at the top end of the city’s luxury offerings, with Italian marble bathrooms, Wedgwood chinaware and crystal glassware, bespoke British dining accoutrements, and an iHome docking station.

If jet-lag has got the better of you, Chuan Body + Soul will tease away any tiredness. The 604sqm wellness sanctuary is based on the Chinese philosophy of the five elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water – and offers different holistic treatments using private label essential oils to restore mind, body and soul.

It’s also the only oasis in Hong Kong with prized bee venom therapies, meaning a dose of alternative TLC is on the cards. If bee venom isn’t your thing, then a deep-tissue massage or Chuan Ritual will help you re-centre and slow down. There are also saunas, a rooftop swimming pool, and a split-level fitness-on-demand health club, all promising to revive you ahead of your holiday.

Hong Kong is a city with so much to offer, and much of it is on The Langham’s doorstep. In one direction, there’s West Kowloon Cultural District, home to Hong Kong Palace Museum, M+ Pavilion, Xiqu Centre, Art Park, and the Lyric Theatre Complex. In the other, there’s Museum of Art, Clock Tower, Space Museum and the Cultural Centre. The Langham is surrounded by flagship boutiques of the world’s most exclusive brands on Canton Road and Nathan Road’s Golden Mile, offering retail therapy from LV and Chanel to Burberry.

For everything else, Harbour City mall, Lee Gardens, and IFC Mall are close by, or you can head to the Night Market and Jade Market, two vibrant spots to try local street cuisine, explore artisanal crafts or take home a piece of jade jewellery.

Hong Kong is made for walking, and if you like to see the city by foot, stroll through Nursery Park, then weave your way along the waterfront promenade all the way round the waterfront to Tsim Sha Tsui promenade. It’s the perfect way to see the city in all its glittering glory.

To explore further afield, just a five-minute walk will take you to the historic Star Ferry and Victoria Harbour, then it’s just a quick 10-minute hop over to Hong Kong Island and the Central Business District. You can also cross the water by Aqua Luna, to see the city’s stunning skyline from a different vantage point.

However you discover Hong Kong , there’s no doubt you’ll return to the hotel hungry. Luckily, it has its just rewards, with five world-class restaurants, including T’ang Court, which holds the record for the longest history of any three-Michelin-starred restaurant in the city – eight years, to be precise. Its menu dives into the glory days of the Tang Dynasty, China’s golden age, with time-tested Cantonese dishes such as baked stuffed crab, chilled sliced conch, and stir-fried dried shrimps for legendary fine dining as only the Langham can do.

From East to West, the bright and beautiful Palm Court brings the English tradition of afternoon tea to Hong Kong. ‘The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood’ is as fanciful as tea experiences come, with patisserie, finger sandwiches, and macaroons served with specialty teas and delicate soft drinks, all enjoyed with live music in relaxed refinement.

At The Food Gallery, Chinese, Asian and Western cuisine collide, boasting one of the largest seafood selections in Hong Kong during dinner – think oysters, lobsters, Alaskan crab legs, and more – with an open kitchen to add a little extra flavour and flair.

To end your night on a high note, Artesian, an award-winning concept hailing from London, features a nostalgic romance of Art Deco details with modern touches, where interesting mocktails featuring home-made infusions are stirred, shaken and served from the horseshoe-shaped bar by the Artesian’s impeccably stylish crew.

A city dweller’s paradise, The Langham is really the beating heart of Hong Kong, where every story starts and ends.
