The competition
Villa 88 joined forces with SMK Tennis to launch a trophy design competition for the 2021 edition of the annual Emirati women’s tournament in Abu Dhabi. Envisioned by Sheikha Shaikha bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, the founder of SMK Tennis, this initiative offered male and female Emirati creatives the opportunity to create a trophy design using sustainable materials, following the theme of ‘Connecting Champions’.
The goal is to offer an avenue for emerging artists and designers and to nurture their skills, with the possibility of making their unique vision a reality. Entries are being reviewed on the basis of SMK: sustainability, mastery and knack for creativity by our coveted judging panel, featuring designer Aljoud Lootah, and artists Mattar Bin Lahej and Ashwaq Abdulla. The winning design will be locally manufactured.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
The grand prize
The winner will be awarded a cash prize of AED30,000 and the chance to present the trophy at the closing ceremony of SMK Tennis 2021 tournament in the presence of members of the UAE royal family. The winner will also be featured in a 2020 edition of Villa 88 magazine.
