We Review Christian Louboutin’s Soleful FW 2020 Collection

Christian Louboutin is a quiet, calm and down-to-earth man, but his designs scream innovation, reinvention, and playfulness. With almost 30 years of shoe-making to his credit, his Fall/Winter 2020 collection launch during women’s RTW fashion week in Paris, was nothing short of a visual treat.

Cubism is a recurring theme in the collection. The Hot Chick and the Just Nothing sandals are ‘dip-dyed’ in a bright palette of cyan, yellow, hot pink and optic white. The Cabaraparis, available in two styles – one depicting Paris by day and one by night, as well as the signature tote, were inspired by the French capital. Created in collaboration with artist Hélène Tran, the Cabaraparis will be complemented by a capsule of limited-edition shoes, known as Paris.

The 70s’ continue to be a decade that dominates fashion weeks and Louboutin has created retro-cool pieces channeling the flamboyant style of Elton John and Ziggy, with the Izamayeh bootie and the Foolili over-the-knee boot that features a boosted sky-high platform flared chunky heel.

With his playful surprises, Louboutin incorporated winter materials in the collection. Think about down-jacket shoes in black and the iconic Loubi red, pointed-toe booties sitting atop refined stilettos and mule sandals.

The designer’s goddaughter is Egyptian-Italian-French model Elisa Sednaoui Dellal, after whom he named one of his key designs. The Elisa bag returns for the collection in new colorways to pay tribute the brand’s craftsmanship.
