National Geographic Abu Dhabi Receives Breathtaking Regional Entries For Its Photography Competition

National Geographic Abu Dhabi’s annual regional photography competition is just around the corner. Titled ‘Moments’, the event has been accepting entries from across the Gulf region and has received a huge volume of submissions, especially from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Moments has positioned itself as one of the largest competitions in the region, and offers aspiring photographers with a platform to showcase their works, all while giving them the chance to learn from National Geographic experts through a photography travel expedition.

Themed on the ‘Souqs of the Middle East’, the 2019 Moments edition calls on photographers to capture the diversity and beauty of markets in the Arab world, which have been integral to the region’s cultural vocabulary.

Among the entries are wondrous views of the Bab Makkah Souq in Jeddah, street hawkers and beautiful vintage shops, and Al Qaysariyah Souk in Al Ahsa, where traditional dress and oud shops are abundant. Emirati photographers have snapped the UAE’s historic markets, from Dubai’s Old Souq to fish markets in Fujairah and Khorfakkan.

Also a part of the entries received are images of the Nizwa Souq in Oman, speckled with fruit and date stalls and butcher shops, and the Muharraq Souq in Bahrain, where you can satiate your senses with spices, coffee and halwa. From Kuwait, entries include mages of bird markets. Entries are open until 10 August, so you better get clicking!
