As we celebrated Emirati Women’s Day yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared a moving message on his Instagram account to commemorate the unyielding spirit of Emirati women.

In a heartfelt video, he expressed his gratitude to all the women in the UAE, whom he considers to be torchbearers of the future. He begins the message, saying, “On Emirati Women’s Day, which falls on August 28 of each year, we celebrate mothers, sisters, wives and daughters.”
2019 marks five years since 28 August was chosen as Emirati Women’s Day by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. This year was themed as ‘Women, Icons of Tolerance,’ which aptly describes the grit and determination of Emirati women.

Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, also shared an inspiring video, charting the life and achievements of Suaad Alshamsi, an employee with the airline who has played a key role in preparing one of the world’s biggest airport terminals for launch.
